2016 happened so fast, I could recall how I celebrated New Year with my family and in a flash, I am celebrating another new year. In 2016, I tried things for the first time and it was amazing. I learned a lot that helped me grow into a better person. Everything just went by so quickly but I wanna write down the Top 10 things that made my 2016 a blast.
We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.
Hike for a Cause (Feb 2016) – We, the Secretariat Team of TPBPM organized a Hike for a Cause for the benefit of TPBPM. Isn’t it amazing that we got to do the things that we love like hiking, being with the people we love and helping our beloved organization, all in one. We are very proud of this and it has gained us new friendships and volunteers.
What happens around the campfire, stays at the campfire.
Holy Week Camping ( March 2016) – This year, I spent my holy week conquering mountains and camping with my friends. It was that moment that I feel in love with camping. My friends had a trilogy in Mt. Pamintinan, Haponang Banoi, and Binacayan, although I just hiked Mt. Pamitinan I still enjoyed the trip because I was able to do camping back to basic style. I loved preparing food for them and just sleep in my tent or in my duyan. It was so relaxing and I loved every minute of it.
Life is like a play in the theater: it does not matter how long it lasts, but how well it was played.
Les Miserables ( April 2016) – I watch my very first Musicale and it was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. I first watch Les Mis when it was shown in the cinemas last 2012, and it gave me goosebumps. My favorite scene was when Eponine sang “On my Own” singing her heart because he is secretly in love with Marius. ( Feels ko ang character nya, grabe.)
I love him
But every day I’m learning
All my life
I’ve only been pretending
His world will go on turning
The world that’s full of happiness
That I have never known
I was waiting for that scene and I cried, again. Watching a musical for the first time is a surprising experience. Before the play started, I thought I would sleep in the process, but I did not! I actually could not find the right words to explain how I feel but it was superb. BTW, we were in the orchestra and we got the tickets for free. How lucky is that? 🙂
If it scares you, it might be a good thing to try.
Canyoneering in Kawasan Falls ( May 2016)– I have been in Kawasan Falls when I was five years old. It was my birthday and I was with my whole family. We were enjoying the cold waters of the main waterfalls. I could not forget that experience. So when my cousin included in our itinerary, a canyoneering trip to Kawasan Falls, I got excited and a little bit of afraid. I am not an A-LIST ADVENTUROUS type of girl and I am a bit anxious as to how I am gonna force myself to jump off the cliffs because I don’t know if I can do it.
This year, I conquered my fear of heights and jumping because once you jump in the first cliff, there is no turning back. Nevertheless, I enjoyed every bit of jumping I did.
The love of a family is life’s greatest blessings.
Family Reunion ( May 2016)– Because we live many islands away from each other, we rarely got the time and budget to be together always. This time, we are almost complete, and I am so happy that we got to do it this year. We actually commemorated the 1st death anniversary of my beloved lola and it’s also a time to see one another. It’s so nostalgic having everyone around, I remember when we were young when we always go to the beach every time my cousins from Davao visit us in Cebu.
Mamasapano Peace Mission ( September 2016)– It was my fourth time and the longest that I am going to stay in Maguindanao. It was special for me because the people had started opening up, the SCPHFP Program was launched ( our baby) and I can sense the genuine happiness of the teachers, the children, and the people while we are there. When I go back to Maguindanao, I would always remember how we ended up to the schools. My journey there is not easy, it has become more personal and I always feel the pain every time. But I don’t care, as long as we make a lot of kids happy, it’s all that matters.
National Peace Convention in Davao ( November 2016) – I represented TPBPM during the gathering of peace builders and advocates in the National Peace Convention in Davao City last November to create action plans for the Peace Building issues in the Philippines. It was an amazing experience for me being able to meet peace builders from all generations. What was unforgettable was when my group asked me to present our output on Culture of Peace topic during the presentation. (Ayaw ko dapat eh kasi haler baka magkabulol-bulol ako doon pero pinilit nila ako, at napilit naman ako.) Before I presented I asked them to do a peace clap for me to get their attention, and I think I succeeded because everyone did the peace clap and the room was silent while I was talking there for 10 minutes. It was my first time talking in front of 500 or more people, and it felt good to be able to talk about the things that you love and be able to talk. haha
It was also an opportunity for me to bond with my family, as you all know Davao is my second home. I studied there High School, I may have stayed there but I never really got the chance to explore the place and I am thankful that I got to make gala even for a short time when I was there, thanks to my cousin who planned everything for me 😀
Life is for deep kisses, strange adventures, midnight swims and rambling conversations.
Baler-Baler with Peace Berkada ( December 2016) – It has been my dream to go visit Baler after watching the movie BALER with Jericho Rosales and Anne Curtis and it finally came true last December. We planned our Baler trip after we got back from Maguindanao and it was so worth it.
