Mt. Batulao: My First Legit Hike

Mount Batulao is an extinct stratovolcano in the Calabarzon region of the Philippines, located in northwest Batangas province along its border with Cavite. And this is my first hike, I was legit scared that I’m willing to go back to Manila after getting off the bus.

The name “Batulao” comes from a contraction of the Tagalog phrase “bato sa ilaw” or “ilaw sa dalawang bato” (“illuminated rocks”) in reference to the phenomenon that takes place at the mountain in December when the sun’s rays come out from between the mountain’s two prominent peaks and light them up.Other sources say its name may have also been derived from a portmanteau of the Tagalog words “bato” (“rock”) and “dilaw” (yellow) referring to the mountain’s color during sunrise.

But good thing I pushed through because this is the best hike I have ever did even after hiking 10 mountains (updated). I felt so confident, I was so free and I enjoyed the hike so much even if it’s too hot because Mt.Batulao is an open mountain.

We shared adobo and rice for lunch, I so freakin love the feeling of being at the summit. It gives me so much freedom and I am in awe looking at God’s creation from above.
